Sustainability Advisory
From net-zero pledge to delivery plan
Targets are the easy part. Credible decarbonisation needs a baseline, costed options and clear ownership.
Many organisations have announced climate targets. Far fewer can show how they will be met. Investors, lenders and regulators are increasingly asking for that evidence, and a pledge without a plan is becoming a reputational risk rather than an asset.
The foundation is a reliable baseline. Measuring emissions across operations, purchased energy and the value chain, with transparent methods, tells you where the biggest opportunities really are. It also makes progress verifiable later.
From there, build a pathway of specific options, each with an estimated cost, abatement potential, timing and dependencies. Plotting options against cost per tonne helps separate the efficient moves from the expensive ones, and shows what the target will truly demand.
Ownership matters as much as analysis. Each initiative needs an accountable owner, a budget line and a milestone in the normal planning cycle. Plans that live only in a sustainability report rarely survive contact with capital allocation.
Lastly, plan the reporting. Decide which metrics will be tracked, how often, and to whom they will be disclosed. Consistent, well-governed reporting is what turns a strategy into a story that stakeholders can trust.
